In order to promote a transnational perspective in migration research, these will focus on different subjects and include a range of topics within the umbrella theme of migrant transnationalism. The Standing Committee also plans to promote accessible knowledge on methods via its online presence (videos, podcasts, blog entries, social media) as a part of our planned Research Methods Kitchen. Network management The Standing Committee will organize formal Standing Committee meetings at the IMISCOE annual conferences. On 24 January, 2020, 34 migration researchers from all over Europe gathered in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, for the kickoff-workshop of IMISCOE’s Standing Committee “Reflexive Migration Studies”.

In between the annual conferences, the Standing Committee will actively use electronic communication channels and the allocated webpage space on the IMISCOE’s website. The Migration, Citizenship and Political Participation Standing Committee (MIGCITPOL) offers a unique forum to researchers working in the fields of migrants’ access to citizenship and political participation in sending and receiving societies. The objective of the Standing Committee on Migrant Transnationalism (MITRA) is to provide an arena within IMISCOE for exchange on migrant transnationalism. The transnational turn was an innovation in migration studies and offered a new perspective for overcoming the limitations of methodological nationalism. The aim of this standing committee is to push forward a reflexive (and self-reflexive) perspective within migration studies. Given the growth, relevance and responsibility of migration studies, we strive to promote reflexivity in our research and to investigate on how the field of migration studies has emerged.

The Standing Committee on Migration, Citizenship and Political Participation (MIGCITPOL) is one of the longstanding IMISCOE research groups.
